Maine Oil Prices — Terms of Use

These terms cover the Maine Oil Prices app and this website, published by Stephen Goss (“we”). You agree to them when you tick the box before you submit a price report or add a dealer, and by using an account. If you do not agree, you can still browse prices without an account.

What the app is

• The app republishes advertised prices from the public price board at maineoil.com and shows prices that other people report paying.
• We are not a dealer, a broker or an agent, and we are not affiliated with maineoil.com or with any dealer. Prices change constantly. Confirm the price with the dealer before you order.
• The app is free. There are no purchases, subscriptions or paid tiers.

Your account

• You must be 18 or older to create an account.
• You are responsible for what is submitted from your account. Do not share your password.
• You must verify your email address before you submit a price report, confirm or dispute one, flag content or add a dealer.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account, or on the web at maineoilprices.app/delete-account.

Content you submit

The content you can create is a price report (dealer, price per gallon, any delivery fees, gallons, delivery date, delivery town, fuel) and — when you add a dealer that is not on the board — a dealer name. You keep ownership of what you submit and grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store it, to display it in the app and through the service behind it, and to include it in aggregate figures such as a median. The licence continues after you delete your account, when your price reports are kept without your name.

Objectionable content and behaviour — prohibited

You must not submit, and must not use the app to distribute, any of the following:

• False or fabricated price data. Report only a price you actually paid, for the gallons and on the date you enter.
• Manipulation. Do not submit reports to push a dealer’s figures up or down, do not use more than one account, and do not confirm or dispute reports you have no knowledge of.
• Harassment, threats, bullying or hate speech, including in a dealer name you type.
• Sexual, obscene, violent or otherwise offensive material, and profanity, in any free-text field.
• Personal information about anyone — names of private individuals, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, account numbers — in any free-text field.
• Impersonation of a dealer, of another person, or of us.
• Advertising, spam or solicitation, including dealer names used as advertising copy.
• Anything unlawful, or that infringes someone else’s rights.

Reporting, blocking and enforcement

• Every reported price and every user-created dealer carries a “Report this” action. Flagged content is hidden pending review, and we aim to act within 24 hours.
• When signed in, you can block another person from the More menu on any of their reported prices, and see or undo your blocks under Settings → Account → Blocked users. A blocked person’s reports disappear from your lists of reported prices and from the medians you see, and stay hidden if that person later deletes their account.
• Submissions are screened automatically before they are stored: prices far outside what nearby dealers charge are rejected, gallons and delivery dates are bounded, the number of reports per account is limited, and typed dealer names are screened for profanity and contact details.
• We may remove content and suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, with or without notice.

No warranty, and limits

The app and the data in it are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that any price is accurate, current or available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app or from reliance on a price shown in it.

Changes

We will update this page and the “Last updated” date when these terms change. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
