Delete your Maine Oil Prices account

This page is for people who want their Maine Oil Prices account, published by Stephen Goss, and the data attached to it deleted. You do not need to install or reinstall the app to use it.

Option 1 — delete it yourself, in the app

Open the app, sign in, and go to Settings → Account → Delete account, then confirm. Deletion is immediate.

Option 2 — ask us, by email

Email support@maineoilprices.app with the subject “Delete my account” and the email address you sign in with (for Apple or Google, the address that provider shows you). We will write to that address once we have matched it to an account, in a new message rather than a reply, so a request from any other address reaches no one but the account’s owner. Our message carries a one-time code and asks how you sign in to the app, and we delete the account once you reply with that code within 7 days. If you used Apple’s Hide My Email, give us the private relay address. If our message cannot reach you through Apple’s relay, delete the account in the app on your iPhone (Option 1). If you signed in with Apple or Google using an address that provider does not run, such as a Gmail address with Sign in with Apple, your account has no email address on file; we find it by the address the provider shared when you signed in, and delete it only if your reply names that way of signing in. If that address matches more than one account, we ask how you signed in and delete the account that holds that address and any other that matches how you sign in. We complete a confirmed request within 30 days, and usually within a few days. There is nothing to cancel first — the app is free and has no purchases or subscriptions.

What is deleted

Deleted data can stay in our database backups for up to 30 days, and in an encrypted export that only the owner can open for about three months, as the privacy policy explains.

What is kept, and why

Price reports you submitted are anonymised rather than deleted: the link to your account is removed and the report is marked as having no author. The prices other people rely on stay intact, and nothing in the remaining record identifies you. If someone had blocked you, those reports stay hidden from them: the block moves to a random identifier that nothing links to you. A content report you raised that we have not yet reviewed is kept, without your identity, until we review it, so anything it hid stays hidden meanwhile. Short-lived abuse-prevention counters, which can hold your email address, IP address or account ID, are deleted automatically within three days. Cloudflare’s log of requests to our API, which can hold your IP address and the ID of your deleted account, is kept for 7 days. If you asked us by email, we keep the date and your deleted account’s ID, but not your email address, with no time limit: it is our record that we deleted it, and it lets us delete the account again if we ever restore an older backup.

See the privacy policy for the full retention and deletion policy.
